Every kid needs a bicycle, and Allina Health and Free Bikes 4 Kidz have been partnering to make this a reality. Saturday, New Ulm Medical Center staff and family were in the NUMC parking lot collecting donated child bikes. 77 bikes were donated in the first few hours. This annual drive has collected up to 300 bikes in a single year. Each bike donated is given a once-over by volunteers. The bikes will then be shipped to the Free Bikes 4 Kidz organization. Bikes 4 Kidz volunteers will spend the winter fixing up the bikes. Once fixed, the bikes will be sent back to New Ulm and be given to kids in the community in need of a new bike. The donation is part of Allina’s effort to promote healthy habits in youth by keeping them active.
