2020 is more than halfway through and we have been thrown quite a few curve-balls to say the very least. Some notable events include an impeachment trial and acquittal, a threat of conflict with Iran, a presidential election preseason, and COVID-19 has presented challenge after challenge.
We can create a long laundry list of all the negatives and tragedies from COVID-19, but today we’re going to take a look at some positive discoveries. I think this pandemic has made us realize and appreciate those we deem as essential workers; healthcare professionals, trade workers, and critical retail employees, just to name a few. Our communities have had to band together (while staying six feet apart) to help each other out. Current events have also shown us that we need reliable media sources to guide us through unprecedented times.
Since 1949, KNUJ Media has been dedicated to entertaining and informing listeners across southern Minnesota. This tradition continues with our resources pertaining to COVID-19. When local restaurants and bars were forced to close their doors, we utilized the KNUJ Text Line to promote menus, and takeout and delivery specials. For more information, just text the word “MENU” to 507-354-6101 today! Our website features a “Coronavirus Update” link right on the homepage. The KNUJ Newsline is filled with headlines from the Minnesota Department of Health, as well as local municipalities’ latest recommendations and mandates.
And when the statistics seem too daunting and quarantine becomes boring, rest assured that Brian Filzen’s witty humor can brighten up your morning, Dinner Bell Hour polkas can lift your spirit, and Tom Wheeler is giving you a play-by-play of your favorite local baseball team. In times of uncertainty and crisis, you need trusted sources to deliver your news and current events; and in a world of choices, we at KNUJ are glad that you choose us.
So yes, we’ve been thrown a lot of curve balls this past year, and there is no way of knowing what the rest of the year will bring. But what do you do when life throws you a curve-ball? You knock it out of the park.
On the KNUJ Blog, I’m Bridget Grathwohl.
