New Ulm Police are investigating an incident that happened in the Hy-Vee parking lot Sunday. Police say a woman described a mn that pulled up next to her in the parking lot and stared at her as he lit a cigarette outside of his vehicle. Police say the woman went in and did her shopping and when she came out the man was still standing there. She got in her vehicle and she said it wouldn’t start. The man then came over and asked her if she was having trouble and she told him no. Help eventually came and it was discovered that her engine had been tampered with. Police say store surveillance showed a man exit a maroon pickup, approach the woman’s vehicle and prop the hood open. The woman wrote down the man’s license plat number and police identified a 27-year-old man and he was found at his residence in New Ulm Charges are pending a review from the city attorney’s office. Police are not releasing the name of the suspect until he is formally charged.
