Brown County Commissioners unanimously approved a COVID-style, tax-forfeited land sale in the Brown County Courthouse Law Enforcement Center Training Room beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept.17. To allow for a level of crowd control, five Sleepy Eye properties will begin to be sold at 10 a.m. and seven Springfield parcels at 10:30 a.m., with Cobden, Evan and Cottonwood Township parcels to be sold at 11 a.m. Commissioners also unanimously approved: A contract to facilitate a parent support group utilizing opioid grant funding. Brown County was originally allocated about $30,000 for a six-month period. The allocation was reduced and Brown County was awarded $11,051 for July 1-Dec. 31, 2020, and $17,365 for all of 2021. The group will include mothers receiving social service case management and will include individual time with mothers and parent/child time. The contract may be renewed for an additional calendar year. Approved supporting the City of Springfield to move and erect the historic Kern Bridge as a pedestrian bridge over the Cottonwood River, north of Riverside Park, or just east of an existing bridge over the river. A $25,863 bid proposal from MEI of Mankato for jail elevator repairs. The elevator was installed in 1993 and is vital to jail operation. It is showing aging signs. MEI is the only local vendor and has serviced the elevator in the past. A recent inspection showed numerous items in need of repair/updating to keep it operating correctly.
