The race for New Ulm City Council President comes down to Larry Mack and Andrea Boettger. In a three-way race for the council president seat, Mack and Boettger received the top votes during the primary, Tuesday. Incumbent Council President Charlie Schmitz came in third. Schmitz has served as council president since January 2009. This is the second time Mack and Boettger will face each other in a city council election. In 2018, both campaigned for the City Council Fourth Ward. Mack was the incumbent and narrowly won the campaign by a difference of 10 votes. Mack’s term as Fourth Ward councilor does not end until 2022. He has served as a councilor since 2015. Mack said the primary was a good clean election campaign and he looked forward to a challenge in November.
