Three companies celebrated Earth Day collecting four large dumpsters of waste Wednesday and Thursday and making sizeable donations to the New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf. Ground Zero Paving & Excavating Services of Courtland owner Jason Kuester said the effort in concert with River View Sanitation of New Ulm and GreenTech Recycling LLC of Mankato collected 120 tons of construction demolition, five 30-yard dumpsters of electronics waste including many televisions and computers, and more than 150 appliances. Participants in the two-day event at Ground Zero Services donated more than 1,700 pounds of food and more than $1,300 in cash to the New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf. Kuester said the metals and iron will be recycled at New Ulm Steel & Recycling. Electronics items will be recycled at GreenTech Recycling.
