Construction on the German Park amphitheater continues. The pouring of concrete footings is expected to begin Today (Friday, April 10, 2020). The new amphitheater will replace the earthen terraces with concrete and includes two new ramps to the top of the amphitheater for wheelchair seating. The total project is estimated at $1.2 million. This estimate includes soft costs, construction and the shade structure for the amphitheater. Park and Recreation Director Tom Schmitz said $370,000 in fundraising is still needed to reach the $1.2 million project goal. Most of it was for the additional shade structure, estimated at $250,000. Donations may be sent to the Park and Recreation office at 122 S. Garden St. Park reconstruction is also anticipated to begin at Hermann Heights within the next two weeks. The Hermann Heights retaining wall and parking lot will be improved. Work on the retaining wall is expected to start first.
