The fourth time is the charm for the Maple River School District. Voters have passed the school referendum by ten votes. The final tally was 1,036 in favor, 1,026 opposed. The referendum authorizes a $63.3-million bond to build a 185,000 square-foot school on a new site off Highway 7 south in Mapleton. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2021. The school is expected to open in the fall of 2022. The district’s three existing buildings will either be demolished or sold for private reuse.
