A court document filed by the Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension has been made public. It states that the wanted man who shot Waseca Police officer Arik Matson wanted to commit “suicide by cop.” Tyler Janovsky is accused of shooting Matson in the head as officers responded to a suspicious person call and exchanged gunfire. Janovsky was wanted after drugs and materials for making methamphetamine were allegedly found in his Waseca residence. Janovsky was shot during the gunfire exchange and was taken to North Memorial in Robbinsdale as was Officer Matson. Court records show an arrest warrant has been issued for Janovsky but has not yet been executed. Matson continues to show improvement. He has responded to questions by squeezing hands and giving a thumbs up but still needs help breathing at times.
