The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop school board proposed to close the Fairfax school beginning with the 2020-2021 school year.  The proposal passed by a 3 – 2 vote with one board member not voting.  Action came on a motion and seconded by two Winthrop board members and a Gibbon board member.  The two Fairfax board members voted against the proposal.  Gibbon board member Kelsey Odegard did not vote on the measure.  A public hearing on the closure proposal has been set for 6:30 pm February 4th in the Gibbon gym.  The board is expected to make a final decision on the proposal after the hearing.  Superintendent Lonnie Seifert said the district is about $550,000 in debt and needs to reduce costs over the next couple of years.
