Two Brown County men who make time for others were recently recognized as Brown County Outstanding Seniors. Bob Shirlinger and Don Hawkins were honored during the Senior Citizens program at the Brown County Free Fair. 90-year-old Don Hawkins has lived and worked in New Ulm since 1959. Hawkins was a mechanic for a farm implement dealer and later became a bus driver for New Ulm Bus Lines taking care to know all of the school children he transported by name. 73-year-old Bob Shirlinger is well known for his activities with the Lion’s Club. He is a 19-year-member who has served at the Low-Vision Center of the New Ulm Public Library distributing magnifying machines to enable people with low vision to read. He has also been the top ticket seller for the Lions Spring Raffle.
