The Mankato Free Press reported that a St. James man convicted of assaulting an 81-year-old man will now have to carry out a prison sentence that was originally stayed. 20-year-old Jesus Ibarra assaulted the 81-year-old after he was confronted for carrying marijuana in the summer of 2017. Ibarra was convicted in September and sentenced to a year in jail and a stayed 117 months in prison. Ibarra was released from jail in December and failed to contact his probation officer and was arrested soon after for having multiple controlled substances in his system. Ibarra is now at the state prison in St. Cloud with credit for time served and good behavior. He will be eligible for release in December of 2024.
