Local authorities reported different scams happening in the area. St. James Police are warning of a scam going around telling utility customers their utilities will be disconnected if they do not pay immediately with a credit card. Authorities say City Hall has received several phone calls from victims. Police warn to never give credit card or banking information over the phone. Additionally, the New Ulm Police Department also reported an email scam happening. The victim will receive an email from someone they “know”. They will then request ITunes gift cards. Police remind the public to be extra cautious as these scams become more believable.
