The New Ulm City Council held a truth in taxation public hearing on Tuesday night in the City Council Chambers. In September, the Council set the 2019 preliminary tax levy at a maximum 7.42% increase, at last night’s meeting, they made small changes to decrease the levy. They originally planned on putting $256,000 into a sinking fund to be used to purchase new fire trucks, but decreased that to $200,000 because that fund already has $1.6 million dollars in it. The upcoming purchases of Fire equipment are under $500,000, so the council thought the reduction was reasonable. The Council also voiced concerns about the Parks and Rec Budget. They ultimately decided to dedicate work sessions to prioritize projects within the park system.
