State lawmakers have made two big changes to the Minnesota teacher licensing system. The first change consolidates all license standards and decisions under the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board. The board will oversee the new four-tiered licensing system, which allows educators without traditional credentials to be licensed while working to meet state standards. The new system also gives districts flexibility when hiring teachers of color and hard-to-find math, science, and special-education teachers.
