Sleepy Eye Police have determined after an investigation that the woman who reported that her wallet was stolen by a fake police officer in October falsified the account. On October 28th 35-year-old Nicole Domeier of Sleepy Eye reported that she was pulled over by an unmarked police car with flashing lights. She reported that a man who she believed was a police officer told her to give him her wallet and drove off with it. During their investigation, Sleepy Eye Police reviewed surveillance footage in the area from the time of the incident and didn’t locate any emergency lights or a vehicle matching her description. On October 30th, a man had turned in a black Michael Kors wallet that he found on the sidewalk away from the location that Domeier reported the vehicle drove off in. The wallet had credit cards belonging to Domeier. Police also noted that the timeline given by Domeier and her husband didn’t match. On Sunday, Police brought Domeier and her husband into questioning where they showed the evidence against her story. According to court documents, Domeier then admitted to fabricating the story, she stated that her husband was never there for her and that she wanted the attention. Domeier has been charged with a misdemeanor count of Falsely Reporting a Crime. She could face up to 90 days imprisonment and/or up to a $1,000 fine if convicted.
