The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office reported a hit and run that resulted in a vehicle pursuit on Sunday. Around 1:30 a.m., a Blue Earth County deputy witnessed a 2014 Buick crash into a crosswalk pole and decorative limestone rock in the area of Cherry and Front Street in downtown Mankato. The vehicle then sped away and led the deputy on a pursuit lasting approximately five minutes. The deputy ended the pursuit with a Pursuit Intervention Technique in the area of South 4th Street and Lincoln Street. 23-year-old Daniel Basung of Mankato was taken into custody at the scene and is facing charges of fleeing police in a motor vehicle, DWI, driving after having license revoked, and hit and run. A 28-year-old female passenger was released at the scene with no charges. No one was injured in the incident and minor damage was sustained by the patrol vehicle and suspect vehicle from the PIT maneuver.
