German Hot Noodle Salad ~ submitted by Lavonne Frauendienst, of Arlington


2 cups wide egg noodles
3 strips of bacon – diced
1/4 c. onion chopped
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. ground mustard
1/2 c. cold water
1/4 c. cider vinegar
1 c. sliced celery
2 Tbsp. minced fresh parsley


Cook noodles according to package.  Meanwhile in a large skillet cook bacon until crisp, remove to paper towl, save 1 Tbsp. of drippings. Saute onion in drippins until tender, stir in the sugar, flour, salt and mustard.  Add water and vinegar until blended, bring to a boil, cook and stir for 1 – 2 minutes or until thickened and bubbly.  Rinse and drain noodles, add to skillet.  Stir in celery and parsley. Heat through and transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle with bacon.
