The Mankato Department of Public Safety said that while changing clocks for daylight savings, it’s also a good time to test smoke detectors and change their batteries. Some newer model smoke detectors use a battery with a 10-year life span, and it’s beneficial to make sure those batteries are working. Smoke alarms can save lives by alerting people about a potential fire. Residential smoke alarms should be placed in each bedroom, in hallways outside bedrooms and on each building level.
